Today is the Feast of All the Saints, a festival the Church created to commemorate the lives and witness of the many ordinary men and women who aren't given a special place in our calendar. So today we pray with the company of heaven and all those who have gone before us -
the source of all holiness and giver of all good things:
grant that we, who have shared at your table
as strangers and pilgrims here on earth,
may, with all your saints
be welcomed to the heavenly feast
in the day your kingdom comes,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
We are all called to live our lives in accordance with Christ's teaching and example. We are all called to be 'saints.' If we live our lives as far as we are able according to those principles we can hold to that hope.
For all the saints, who from their labours rest.
Now I look forward to watching and listening to the High Mass being broadcast on HD One, German television, from the Mariendom in Freising. Excellent choir, organ and orchestral accompaniment to the Mass being broadcast live. Not, I suspect, something BBC watchers will have the privilege of enjoying.
